The Ming Vase gown from Guo Pei’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection.
I first saw Chinese couturier Guo Pei’s work when my favorite fashion bloggers, Tom and Lorenzo, wrote a post about her 2010 collection. That link is unfortunately no longer working, but the Ming Vase gown is from that show, as well as this one, worn by legendary model Carmen Dell’Orefice.
Here is the link to Vogue Italia’s photo spread of that collection, which also included the canary yellow cape gown that Rhianna wore to the 2015 Met Gala.
It seemed to me that her gowns were designed with fairytale characters in mind.
I was reminded of her work when this showed up in my facebook feed, an article with photos from the new book “Guo Pei: Couture Beyond.” The article references Chinese folklore, so I was not alone in my thinking.
Here are some more links:
Guo Pei Chinese website (english translation)
Guo Pei French website which includes photos of her most recent collections
SCAD FASH museum of fashion in Atlanta exhibit of Guo Pei’s work (the book was published in conjunction with this exhibit)
You can also just search for images of her work on your favorite web search engine. They are all jaw dropping.
